NHS Lothian - Eating Disorders

For this project, I was approached by NHS Lothian to create a suite of videos around the topic of eating disorders and the support they can offer in relation to it. Each video deals with a different aspect of living with an eating disorder, either focusing on a person with an eating disorder, a parent or guardian, or myths involved. The project began by discussing the needs of NHS Lothian and focused on discovering the best way to communicate with the viewers of the videos.
Due to the sensitive nature of the topic of the videos, it was decided that we should avoid character animations. Ultimately, it was decided that the videos would be a combination of animated text and abstract visuals by using a different geometric shape to represent a parent, carer or person living with an eating disorder. The colour palette was chosen based on a retro-theme but with a modern twist. Each video needed to be less than 60 seconds in length, specifically designed to perform well on social media.
The scripts were based on the lived experience of carers, parents and people who had eating disorders. This meant that they had an authenticity and emotional element to them. To further this emotional authenticity, the voice over for each video has a different narrator.
